AbdAllah bin Omar

https://www.khutbah.info/abdallah-bin-omar/ Youth are a source of strength, determination, persistence and advancement. Through youth, nations are built and protected. And the greatest investment in the youth is knowledge and education. The nation whose youth learn and gain mastery of knowledge is a nation that rises, progresses and has power.  In our glorious history, there are outstanding examples of youth who devoted their lives to pleasing their Lord and benefiting themselves and their nations. They established the rights of Allah and gave everyone their due rights. As a result, their biographies were immortalized. And they were emulated and people were guided through their examples.

Verily, all praise is for Allah. We praise Him, we seek His assistance and we ask for His forgiveness. And we seek refuge in Him from the evils of our selves. Whoever Allah guides, none can misguide. Whoever He misguides, none can guide. And I bear witness that there is no deity other than Allah and I bear witness that Mohammad is His slave and messenger.

Al Imran 102 : O you who believe! Fear Allah as He should be feared, and die not except in a state of Islam.

Oh people:

Youth are a source of strength, determination, persistence and advancement.

One excellent example is AbdAllah bin Omar bin Al Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him and his father). He was born two years after the Prophet’s mission started. He accepted Islam alongside his father in Makkah and he had not yet reached adolescence. Later, he emigrated to al Madinah. The day of Badr he was only 13 and the Prophet ﷺ did not permit him to join the campaigns of Badr and Uhud due to his age.  And when the Prophet ﷺ passed he was only twenty-two years old.

AbdAllah lived for the sake of Allah from the moment that he learned of Islam. The world came to him from every side, but he turned away from it seeking the pleasure of Allah the Almighty.

Prior to his marriage, he spent his time in the masjed building his knowledge. He read, learned and listened to the Prophet ﷺ and he did not miss a thing. He even used to sleep in the masjed; it was his home, his school and his place of worship.

And one day he saw a dream that changed the course of his life. He (may Allah be pleased with him) said: In the lifetime of the Prophet ﷺwhosoever saw a dream would narrate it to the Prophet ﷺ. So, I yearned of having a dream to narrate to Allah’s Messenger ﷺ. I was a young man and used to sleep in the masjid in the lifetime of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. I saw in a dream that two angels took me to the (Hell) Fire which looked like a well with the inside walls built up and had two posts in it. There I saw some people in it whom I knew. I started saying, “I seek Refuge with Allah from the (Hell) Fire, I seek Refuge with Allah from the (Hell) Fire.” Then another angel met us and told me, “Do not be afraid.” I narrated my dream to Hafsah who, in her turn, narrated it to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ who said, “What an excellent man AbdAllah would be if he observes the night prayer.” After that AbdAllah used to sleep but a little at night. (al Bukhari 1156, Muslim 2479)

AbdAllah was less than twenty years at the time of this dream which impacted him greatly. From that point on, he committed to maintaining the night prayer. He immediately acted on what he learned from the Prophet ﷺ. He reinforced, increased and purified his knowledge by acting on it.

He lived his entire life in accordance to his knowledge of what pleases Allah.

If he liked something then he would give it away for the sake of Allah. For example, he once rode a camel that he liked so he dismounted it, combed its hair and gave it away in charity. This was based on his knowledge that Allah the Almighty is pure and loves that if His servant offers charity, he should do so with the best of his wealth.

And he did not eat until he invited the poor to eat with him. Once he had 10,000 dirhams and gave it away. He used to prefer others over himself and never kept anything for himself.

He was so dedicated that even the companions were impressed by his devotion and way of life.  He was well known for being the most rigorous among his contemporaries in following the Prophet ﷺ and upholding his sunnah.

Mohammad Al Omari ( مُحَمَّدٌ العُمَرِيُّ) said: I did not hear Ibn Omar mention the Prophet ﷺ except that he cried. And when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “If we had left this door for the women” Ibn Omar did not enter through that door till the day he died.

Through his knowledge and consciousness of Allah he was protected from discord. His hands were never stained with blood. And he did not use tongue to attack people’s honor. Although he lived in the midst of strife, he always spoke the truth and had a firm stance. This was evident from his brief and profound sayings about the discord, its circumstances and its people. A man once wrote to him asking him to relate to him all the knowledge. So he responded:” Knowledge is vast, but if you are able to meet Allah with no burden on your back through (not spilling) their blood and an empty stomach through (not wrongly taking) their wealth , holding your tongue from (offending) their honor, adhering to matters in which there is general agreement, then do so” and he said: “verily our example in this discord, is like that of people walking on a path that they are familiar with. While they we doing so, it was as if a cloud covered them and they were enveloped with darkness. Some of them started moving (randomly) right and left and lost the path. When we realized that, we stayed in our place until Allah lifted the darkness and we were able to see our initial path and we took it.”

May Allah be pleased with Ibn Omar and all of the companions. And guide us to their paths. And resurrect us in their group on the Day of Judgement. And gather us with them in Paradise.

I say what you have heard and I seek forgiveness from Allah for me and you from every sin. So seek forgives from Him, Verily He is Oft-Forgiving, the Most Merciful.

Second Khutbah

All praise is to Allah, and peace and blessings upon the Messenger of Allah, and I bear witness that there is no deity other than Allah and I bear witness that Mohammad is His slave and messenger.

Oh Muslims:

In the biographies of the companions, those who followed them, the imams, and the righteous predecessors of this ummah is an amazing love of knowledge, and dedication to it and safeguarding it, and benefiting the people with it, and following the knowledge with action such that its effect is evident and he becomes a role model for others to follow. And it the best way that the Muslim youth should be raised on. It was the way of a people who prevailed over all nations of the earth at their time.

And they amassed the religion and this world.   And it is better than the way of the shallow and empty people that are glamorized in the media to drown the youth in base desires. And to turn them away from their duties and responsibilities. And to make the male and female youth just a number and a burden on their families and society. And any knowledge that does not benefit a person in their religion or worldly matters is not beneficial knowledge. And any knowledge that does not affect the person’s worships and interactions is nothing more than memorizing information.  And mute recording devices memorize more than them.

And a young person should not wait for someone to pull him out of a difficult situation such as failure, laziness or apathy. Rather he should rush to raise himself by himself. And raise up from the depths to the heights. And to isolate himself from what harms him of diversions. And to restrict himself to what benefits him of knowledge and actions for it has good consequences in this world and the next.

May Allah grant righteousness to the male and female youth and guide them to what benefits them in their religious and worldly affairs. And protect them from the wickedness of the wicked. And the plotting of the immoral.

I conclude with this and send prayers of blessings and peace upon your Prophet as your Lord commanded:

Al Ahzaab (33) 56: Indeed, Allah confers blessing upon the Prophet, and His angels [ask Him to do so]. O you who have believed, ask [ Allah to confer] blessing upon him and ask [ Allah to grant him] peace.

O Allah, guide us with those whom You have guided, grant us well-being among those You have granted well-being, be an ally to us along with those whom You are an ally to, and bless what You have bestowed upon us, and save us from the evil of what You have decreed.  For verily You decree and none can decree over You. He whom You support can never be humiliated. Glory is to You, our Lord, You are Blessed and Exalted.

O Allah, We ask You for all that is good, in this world and in the Hereafter, what we know and what we do not know. O Allah, we seek refuge with You from all evil, in this world and in the Hereafter, what we know and what we do not know. O Allah, we ask You for the good that Your servant and Prophet has asked You for, and we seek refuge with You from the evil from which Your servant and Prophet sought refuge. O Allah, we ask You for Paradise and for that which brings one closer to it, in word and deed, and we seek refuge in You from Hell and from that which brings one closer to it, in word and deed. And we ask You to make every decree that You decree concerning us good

Servants of Allah. Indeed, Allah orders justice and good conduct and giving to relatives and forbids immorality and bad conduct and oppression. He admonishes you that perhaps you will be reminded.

Remember Allah, the Great – He will remember you. Thank Him for His favors – He will increase you therein.  And seek forgiveness from Him – He will forgive you. And be conscious of Him – He will provide you a way out of difficult matters. And, establish the prayer.
